Founded in 1901 in Massachusetts, USA, Brown's Beach Jacket was a favorite among seamen, hunters, lumberjacks, and workers who endured harsh conditions such as strong winds, rain, snow, and cold . Its reputation quickly spread from the East Coast throughout the United States.
The brand's unique material, beach cloth, is a blend of 26% cotton and 76% wool. Its irregular color variations and textured surface have earned it the nickname "salt and pepper." The fabric is constructed with two layers: a knitted top and a woven bottom, and was made using looms that were rare at the time.
Jelado is a Japanese heritage and Americana brand founded in June 2005 in Ebisu, Tokyo, by designer and former professional kickboxer Yohei Goto.
